Location

Location

Brienz – typically Suisse

The charming village is situated on the east end of the turquoise colored Lake of Brienz, imbedded in a magnificent landscape that is surrounded by mountains. Patriarchal chalet houses and idyllic alleys give their distinction to the townscape. The long tradition of wood related professions is evident in the school for wood sculpture and in the violin maker’s school amongst others.

The region of Brienz is starting point for many excursions such as the picturesque Ballenberg Open Air Museum that allows one to experience history firsthand. The museum is located in a hilly landscape full of walking trails and pockets of woods showcasing century old original houses from all over Switzerland. The oldest steam cog and wheel railway is also in Brienz and brings one up to the Brienzer Rothorn, elevated 2244 meters above sea level. From up there you have a fantastic view over the whole Bernese Oberland.
